Norway's Constitution Day

9:00 am Morning:
  • Norwegian flag will be raised by a Park Ranger at the Sefton Plaza (est of the viaduct entrance to Balboa park.)
  • No ceremony will follow.  Anyone is welcome to witness the event.
 
1:30 pm Afternoon:
  • Start formation of the children's parade.
     
 
1:45 pm
  • The parade moves around the outer streets, ending up with the flags secured on the stage.

Participation is encouraged.  Wear bunads.  Bring flags and noise makers.

 
2:00 pm
  • Greeting by HPR President Hannu Mikkonen, House of Finland.
  • Greeting by President Eugenie King, House of Norway.
  • Pledge of Allegiance by House of Norway Queen, Brittany Alvorado.
  • United States and Norway national anthems by Thelma Johannesen.
  • Remards by Consul Gordon Kovtun.
  • Scandianavian Children's Fold Dance Group directed by Oda Audish.
  • San Deigo Men's & Ladies Choirs perform, directed by Joyce Olsen.
  • Piano concerts by Ryan, Reid & Riley Gilbertson.
  • Yough band performance
  • Performing Fold Dancers of Balboa Park.
  • House of Norway will serve refreshments following the program.
  • Chairman - Consul Emeritus of Norway Oswald Gilbertson.

Syttende Mai

Norwegian Constitution Day or “Grunnlovsdag”, commonly known as “Syttende Mai” or the 17th of May, is a celebration of the day in 1814 when Norway’s constitution was signed in the town of Eidsvoll.

The lodge dinner and program on May 10th will feature a discussion about the background and significance of Syttende Mai.

  • Banask Klubb has been invited to perform these songs and take part in a "Fashion Folk Parade" at the Lodge's "Viking Festival" on September 27 & 28, 2008.  We would also like to display a selection of the children's crafts at the Festival.

Norse Mythology for BNK on Sep 9
Summer is over and the Barnas Norsk Klubb is starting up again!  

The topic for September 9 is Norse Mythology.  The children will enjoy storytelling about Odin, Thor, Ragnarok, and Valhalla, as well as making their own Viking puppet, and learning to write their name in Runes.  Randi’s delicious waffles are on the menu. Please see attached flyer for more details.  

As usual, please let us know via email if your children/grandchildren will be attending so that we can make sure we have sufficient supplies.  Send in your reservations by September 3 to take advantage of the discounted prepayment price.
